Caregivers

Remember Jesus' words in Matthew 25 as he responded to the question: "Lord when did we see you sick, lonely, hurting, hungry, thirsty or unable to get out?" (Paraphrased)  Jesus said: "In as much as you did it for one of these my brothers and sisters, you did it to me."

The earliest stories of the Christian tradition reveal the central role of love within the Christian community of faith. The Book of Acts is filled with accounts of ways the early Christians cared for one another and for the wider community. Not only did Jesus claim that his commandment to God and neighbor embodied the whole of the law and prophets, he further stated that love was actually a distinguishing mark of Christian discipleship. It could be said that the story of the Christian faith is a story of love: love of God for humanity and humanity's response to God's love.

Have you or has someone you know experienced a tough period in life? Have you found yourself wondering how you or your friend can recognize, receive and accept God's help in times of trouble? Do you think God might be calling you to share in the church's ministry to other members when they are hospitalized, or in a Nursing Home, or unable to get out very often from their own homes?
